Sunway Malls says it will open its 10th shopping centre in September: Sunway Square Mall in Kuala Lumpur, which combines retail with arts and a learning precinct.

Spanning 278sqm over four storeys, the mall will house more than 150 lifestyle and leisure brands and dining outlets, including Village Grocer, Bump Bouldering, TGV Cinemas, and The Library by BookXcess.

“Sunway Square Mall is part of Sunway Square, a visionary development designed to integrate a multifaceted range of spaces, catering to the arts, commerce, education, and business,” said HC Chan, Sunway Malls’ CEO.

The Malaysian mall operator is set to expand its retail portfolio to 13 malls with 761,805sqm of net lettable area by the end of 2027. This expansion includes the reopening of Sunway Carnival Mall this year and the two new malls – Sunway Pier and Sunway Ipoh – scheduled for 2027.

Last year, the company achieved a 5 per cent annual growth, supported by the Klang Valley, which represented 67.2 per cent of the mall group’s total net lettable area.

“Across our malls, we saw a robust food and beverage performance persisting after the pandemic,” he said.

Due to the continuous resilience of out-of-home dining, food and beverage now accounts for more than 25 per cent of Sunway’s mall tenants, significantly higher than the 15 per cent of a decade ago.
