Authorities close Quarry Bay cafe

Hong Kong authorities have closed a Quarry Bay cafe for breaching its government lease terms.
The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has cancelled the licence of the unnamed light refreshment restaurant in Quarry Bay, as the declaration on compliance with government lease conditions submitted by the licensee in its earlier application for a food business licence was found to be false.
The premises are located at shop 17 on the ground floor of Tak Lee Building at 993 King’s Rd.
“The licensee submitted a declaration upon its earlier application for the food business licence that the operation of the food business at the premises concerned was in compliance with government lease conditions. However, in processing its application for outside seating accommodation last year, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) after consultation with the Lands Department found that the operation of food business at the premises was in breach of government lease conditions. The false declaration resulted in the cancellation of the licence,” a spokesman for the FEHD said.
The spokesman reminded food business licence applicants that the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene will refuse the issue/transfer of a food business licence unless the food premises are in compliance with government lease conditions. In the case of false declaration given concerning compliance with the government lease conditions for the purpose of obtaining the grant of a licence, the licence may be cancelled.
Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign at a conspicuous place near the main entrance indicating that the premises have been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD’s website.
