India’s online grocers face a bright future following the Covid-19 lockdown, according to analysis by industry research firm GlobalData.
Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries has partnered with Facebook’s WhatsApp messaging service to pilot its new online food and grocery channel JioMart in an attempt to redesign Indian retail.
Facebook has paid US$5.7 billion for a 9.99-per-cent stake in Indian telco and e-commerce enabler Jio Platforms, becoming the largest minority shareholder in the Reliance Industries-controlled company.
Reliance Industries has entered India’s online grocery retailing market via a new e-commerce platform JioMart, which started pilot trials last month in Mumbai.
