Lotte Duty Free expands into Thailand

South Korea’s Lotte Duty Free has opened an outlet in central Bangkok, its first foray into Thailand.

Inside the new entertainment and retail complex Show DC, the shop is not in full swing yet, with a grand opening planned before the end of the year, the company says.

Launching in Thailand underscores Lotte’s push to expand its overseas foothold, reports Yonhap News Agency. Lotte is the third-largest duty-free company in the world after Swiss-based Dufry and DFS of the US.

The Bangkok store is the second outlet Lotte has opened abroad this year, following one at the new Da Nang International Airport in Vietnam which is scheduled to be fully running in August. Da Nang is one of the most popular holiday destinations for South Koreans.

Lotte Duty Free has seven stores in five countries, including Indonesia, Japan and the US.
