Conveyor-belt sushi chain Kura Sushi has launched its Kura Sushi Global Flagship Store Ginza, marking the brand’s sixth global flagship store in Japan.

The store, located inside Marronnier Gate Ginza 2, was designed by Kashiwa Sato, one of Japan’s top creative directors. It is also the first large-scaled conveyor-belt sushi franchise to operate in the Ginza district.

The store features “Kura Koedo”, an area inspired by Edo-period food stalls featured in a woodblock print by ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige II. Staff will make sushi, tempura, and skewered rice dumplings directly in front of clients’ eyes.

The store includes Kura Sushi’s longest conveyor belt yet. The interior, like the current global flagship stores, will include a Japanese design, with ukiyo-e prints and paper lanterns and basic wood tables and columns, as well as tatami-mat seating.

Kura Sushi launched its first Mainland China branch in Shanghai last year, following a more than two-year delay due to Covid-19.
