Taiwanese coffee chain hits Hong Kong

Taiwanese coffee shop chain Coffee Alley has opened its first cafe outside Taiwan in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay.

Coffee Alley intends to bring the “rich tradition of Taiwanese coffee culture” to the city and tap into locals’ increasing taste for coffee.

“The pace of life in Hong Kong is fast. Locals and visitors need places where they can relax and hang out. We’re here to bring Taiwan’s relaxing and enjoyable coffee culture to Hong Kong,” said Coffee Alley owner Ho Tat-sing.

“The opening of the new cafe in Hong Kong is our first step in branching out across Asia. We plan to open more cafes in Hong Kong and, depending on future developments, may open more shops in mainland,” said Tat-sing.

Coffee Alley, established in 2006, is a well-established chain in Taiwan which serves a wide range of coffees plus dishes such as waffles and sandwiches.

“Coffee, like wine, has become an increasingly popular drink with many affluent locals, and discerning visitors from around the world, all of whom look for quality coffee outlets in which to enjoy the beverage and relax,” said Investment Promotion associate director-general Andrew Davis.
