Michael Kors to expand in India

Luxury goods maker Michael Kors is to add more stores in India.

The brand, through local partner Genesis Luxury, currently has four stores in the country – in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore.

Sanjay Kapoor, Genesis MD, said the response at the four was excellent, making the company optimistic about the future. He did not elaborate how many stores will be added under a long-term growth plan.

Paula Rosenblum, managing partner at RSR Research, Miami, Florida, earlier said Indian consumers were taking advantage of the opportunity to buy foreign brands when they were visiting other countries so the opportunity to buy within their own country should increase purchase frequency.

India’s luxury market was valued at $8.5 billion in 2013, according to consulting firm KPMG and the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
