Women overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) may look to micro enterprises, such as sari-sari stores, when they return home.
The Department of Labor and Employment and Coca-Cola Philippines have launched a program called Women Entrepreneurs Reintegrated and Economically Active at Home (Women Reach), to give economic opportunities to returning female OFWs.
The program targets women who are already engaged in a sari-sari store, grocery store, food stall, bakery or restaurant.
It also targets women OFWs who are interested in setting up micro enterprises of their choice and inclination. Beneficiaries will be invited for an orientation and training.
Under the partnership, Coca-Cola Philippines will allocate 10,000 slots for women for its 5by20 Star program, an initiative that aims to empower 5 million women within its ‘value chain’ by the year 2020.
Coca-Cola will offer women migrants who wish to engage in other micro businesses courses in basic entrepreneurship and gender sensitivity. The labor agency shall provide support for the livelihood component such as livelihood starter kits, legal and welfare assistance.
