BoxGreen raises $335,000 for expansion

Singapore-based healthy snack subscription service BoxGreen has raised S$335,000 (US$249,000) in a seed round co-led by Expara Ventures and 500 Startups.

An undisclosed angel investor was also involved, and the new funds will be used to increase BoxGreen’s staff count and product offerings.

Founded in 2014, BoxGreen launched its service in May last year. It claims to have since shipped more than 75,000 snack boxes to more than 2000 subscribers. With a set price for each box, users choose the frequency of deliveries. Each box offers four snack varieties from a range of 12.

BoxGreen plans to expand into Malaysia, followed by other markets in the region. Co-founder Walter Oh says inventory management and supply chain are the biggest challenges.

Managing partner Khailee Ng of 500 Startups says that as the middle class in Asia continues to grow, healthy options will become more in demand. “We believe BoxGreen is well positioned to meet the need.”

More subscription box services in Asia have been targeting healthy eating, such as Singapore’s Grain, which in January secured S$1.7 million in a Series A round led by NSI Ventures, 500 Startups, DMP and the founder of Thai Express.
