Ebizu retail tech firm secures $3m funding

Malaysia-based retail advertising and intelligence technology provider Ebizu has secured a $3 million Series A investment round from undisclosed Singapore investors to fuel its regional expansion plans.

Established in 2013, Ebizu has a team of 130 people across offices in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. It specialises in retail advertising and location intelligence using a network of Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) beacons. The beacons transmit a signal that triggers compatible apps on smartphones.

Co-founder Rohit Maheswaran says the company has been expanding its beacon and retailer network over the past five months. He says its product is becoming more data driven so merchants and brands can acquire and retain customers with more precision.

He says Ebizu was formed to bridge the gap between brick-and-mortar stores and increased mobile technology use. Its retail services help engage in-store shoppers with promotions, vouchers and loyalty campaigns.

Ebizu’s has 1900 retail outlets in its network, with a target of 5000 by the end of the year. It also has about 5000 “geofenced” points of interest and 10,000 BLE beacons across Indonesia and Malaysia, with hopes of growing that network to 25,000 by year end.

Ebizu was named the 2015 Asia Pacific BLE in Connected Retail Company of the Year by automated mobility company Frost & Sullivan.
