Korean duty-free pet supplies sales soar

With duty free shops in South Korea seeing record sales, they are attracting new product lines to their offline and online stores – largely aimed at Mainland Chinese.

Shilla Duty Free, Korea’s top duty free shop has just released online its first duty-free pet supplies home brand.

Due to growing popularity, pet supply shops are entering a wide variety of new markets in South Korea.

Pet supply brands that are now featured at offline Shilla Duty Free stores include Sniff, CosmoUnit, Dentists Appointment and Ruffwear.

To boost the emerging pet industry, Shilla Duty Free plans to introduce a premium pet supply shop called Louis Dog this month as well.

Pet toys, carriers, bowls and feeders, collars and leashes, and raincoats are among the current best-selling products.

The revenue that popular pet supply shops earn from diversified products is also increasing. At the end of May, Dentists Appointment and Ruffwear saw 120 per cent and 130 per cent revenue increases, respectively, compared to the month of April.

“Most of the customers who shop at duty free stores are Chinese travellers and we estimate that at least 90 million people in China own pets,” said an official from Shilla Duty Free.

“We are expecting pet supply brands to become popular items at duty free stores in the near future.”
