New mall for Chengdu

Chengdu’s shopping centres will soon have a competitor.

Raffles City Chengdu, located at the intersection of First Ring Rd and Renmin Nan Rd will house 77,000sqm retail podium designed by The Buchan Group of Australia.

The retail podium at Raffles City Chengdu is slated to open early next year. It is the second Raffles City retail development The Buchan Group has designed. Anchor tenants include a gourmet supermarket, cinema and international chain retailers.

Raffles City Chengdu will also house offices, a hotel and serviced apartments.

A project of Capitaland China Holding, Raffles City Chengdu has been designed by architect Steven Holl. With a gross floor area of 300,000sqm, it is the largest Raffles City built to date, surpassing those of Beijing and Shanghai.

“Chengdu is the economic, political and cultural centre of West China. In 2010, disposable income of urban residents in Chengdu achieved sustainable growth of more than 13.3 per cent while retail sales exceeded RMB240 billion. This translates to strong demand for integrated developments like Raffles City Chengdu. With the rise of West China, CapitaLand is confident of Chengdu’s growing importance as an international commercial hub,” said Jason Leow, CEO of CapitaLand China Holdings.

Capitaland is also developing Raffles City complexes in Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Changning and Ningbo.
