TWG Tea to grow beyond Asia

Singapore-based TWG Tea will expand its gourmet tea in mainland China and Taiwan, following its recent launch in Hong Kong.

According to TWG Tea chairman and CEO Manoj Murjani, TWG Tea salons will be opened in Shanghai, Beijing and Taipei by the end of next year.

TWG Tea will also add two more salons in Hong Kong via its partner Osim International, TWG Tea’s joint partner for Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan. Osim holds 35 per cent stake in TWG Tea.

The salons are also headed for Dubai and other Middle East countries in the future as TWG Tea has signed a franchise joint venture with the United Arab Emirate’s Emaar Properties.

“TWG Tea has selected partners in each of the major geographic markets,” said Murjani.

The newly opened TWG Tea in Hong Kong is located at IFC Mall. The 50-seat dining area is spread across 1800sqft.

“This salon in Hong Kong marks our first step to the whole of north Asia and strengthens our resolve to build a global brand,” said Murjani.

TWG Tea is famous for its ‘Singapore Breakfast Tea’ worth HK$75 – a mix of black tea, green tea, vanilla and selected spices creating a sweet and complex flavour. Its most expensive tea called ‘The Yellow Gold Tea buds’ is sold for HK$2688 per 50 grams. It is known for its nutritional benefits due to 24-carat gold flakes painted on the tea leaves sourced from Sichuan province.

One of its cheapest teas is the ‘Mist of Milanie Tea’ from Mozambique, Africa which costs HK$50 for every 50 grams.

The 2007 founded TWG Tea offers more than 800 single estate fine harvest teas and exclusive blends, tea patisseries and tea infused delicacies. Currently, TWG Tea has a presence in Japan, US and UK.
