New lifestyle mall for Singapore

Construction has started on Westgate, a new 594,000sqft lifestyle mall set to be a landmark in Jurong, the largest town in the western part of Singapore.

Developers CapitaMall Trust, CapitaMalls Asia and CapitaLand have held ground breaking ceremony on Thursday. Behind the development are RSP Architects Planners & Engineers and design firm Benoy which are also the consultants for JCube and Ion Orchard. The S$1.5 billion Westgate is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

Westgate’s seven storey shopping mall component will be opened by the end of 2013. Basement 2 to Level 5 will be populated with international/high street fashion, IT and electronics stores, a supermarket, food court and family restaurants. Level 4 will feature a themed play area and Level 5 a gymnasium and a pre-school, My First Skool.

The mall will host more than 600 shops and there will be parking for more than 2200 cars. Another feature of Westgate is an entertainment hotspot JCube with an Imax cinema and Olympic-size ice rink.

“Since we were awarded this site seven months ago in May last year, we have been working towards opening the mall by end-2013. Shoppers can look forward to doing their Christmas shopping at Westgate next year,” said CapitaMalls Asia CEO Lim Beng Chee.

“This mall is our 20th in Singapore, strengthening our retail presence in the western part of Singapore as well as our position as the largest mall owner and manager in Singapore.”

Westgate’s elegant bridges will facilitate a gateway to the Jurong Lake District and transport links including the Jurong East MRT and bus interchanges and neighbouring amenities.

The 20-storey office tower rising above the retail mall will have seamless connectivity to the transport hubs via the mall.
