Best Denki goes virtual in Indonesia

Japanese electronics retailer Best Denki has entered Indonesia’s online market with a new store on Rakuten’s Indonesian virtual shopping mall.

Best Denki now sells various household electrical appliances on Rakuten Belanja Online, which is jointly operated by Japanese e-commerce company Rakuten and Indonesia’s largest multimedia corporation Global Mediacom.

The online store, bestdenki.shop.rakuten.web.id, sells a range of products centered on televisions, personal computers and cameras, much sought after among middle income earners. In the future, it plans to expand its range to include cell phones.

Indonesia is currently the fourth most heavily populated country in the world with around 240 million people, and is said to have the largest population of Internet users (around 33 million people) among Asean countries. The e-commerce market is expected to skyrocket in the future.

Rakuten launched an Internet shopping mall, Rakuten Belanja Online, in Indonesia in June 2011. A wide variety of products are sold through the online shopping mall, ranging from household electrical appliances and digital devices to books, fashion items such as bags and accessories, and toys.

Trading volume in the household electrical appliances category is expected to expand significantly with Best Denki joining the mall.

Rakuten will continue to invite companies to sign up.

Best Denki has a physical presence in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan and Kuwait.
