Muji expands in US

Muji, the Japanese retailer known for its minimalist design, will open its first US West Coast store in San Francisco.

The store will open in November at 540 Ninth St, South of Market (Soma) District, San Francisco. It will be the largest Muji store in the US with 7250 sqft of retail floor space.

Muji Soma will be the brand’s fifth location in the US. It debuted in New York City, with Muji Soho in 2007 and Muji Times Square, then opened a Muji to Go at John F. Kennedy International Airport Terminal 5, and Muji Chelsea in 2008.

“Muji aspires to modesty and plainness so as to adapt and shape itself to the styles, preferences, and practices of the individuals. We hope Muji will be embraced by many people living in San Francisco Bay Area,” said Hiroyoshi Azami, president of Muji USA.

The store will offer over 2000 Muji products, including about 1700 items of household items and 300 items of Apparel lines.
