Wendy’s adds second Japan outlet

American fast food chain Wendy’s will open its second restaurant in Japan in Roppongi on August 17.

The new openings follows its relaunch in Tokyo’s Omotesando area in December 2011, two years after withdrawing from the Japanese market.

In line with the new opening, new menu items such as lobster and caviar burger, surf and turf burger and ocean premium salad will be introduced.

“Japan is a very competitive market in terms of restaurant chains and this is another way for Wendy’s to differentiate itself from competitors,” spokesman Bob Bertini said of the new menus.

Wendy’s Japan is a joint venture between Ohio-based Wendy’s and Higa Industries which also operates Domino’s Pizza in Japan.

From 1980 to 2009, Wendy’s was franchised by Zensho, however, it exited the market in 2009 after weak sales.

Wendy’s Japan is expected to number around 100 within five years.
