Marimekko adds stores in Japan

The expansion of the Marimekko’s network in Japan continues with the opening of two new stores in Tokyo.

One of the stores has opened in Marunouchi district while the other, a shop-in-shop of roughly 60 sqm, will open on September 12 at Seibu department store in Ikebukuro.

“The long-term work started in 2006 to build a comprehensive store network and to boost our brand’s recognition factor has borne fruit and Marimekko has achieved a good position in Japan,” said sales director Päivi Lonka.

Marimekko’s sales have developed well in Japan, despite challenging economic conditions which have challenged several well known consumer brands through declining consumer demand, says Lonka.

Look, Marimekko’s local partner in Japan, is currently seeking further suitable store premises and will open more new Marimekko stores in the greater Tokyo area and other parts of the country.

With the recent openings, Marimekko will have 23 stores in Japan, seven in Tokyo.

Marimekko is a Finnish textile and clothing design company renowned for its original prints and colours. The company designs and manufactures clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags and other accessories.
