US retail brand Radio Shack has opened its first store in southeast Asia.

Radio Shack has been trading for several weeks at Mid Valley Mega Mall and was officially opened last week.

Located on the second floor of the mall, the 1300sqft store offers mobile technology products and services, and a range of products related to personal and home technology and power supply needs.

RadioShack will also open several stores-in-stores carrying more limited stocks beginning with Borders at the Gardens Mall in mid-September followed by Borders at The Curve and Borders at Tropicana City Mall; another stand-alone store will open in Berjaya Times Square by the end of October.

“There is a growing lifestyle trend in electronics and gadgets whereby accessories and IT peripherals are an integral part of modern urban life across varying ages and occupations,” said Yau Su Peng, COO of Berjaya RadioShack Sdn. Bhd. which owns the RadioShack franchise.

“We recognise that there is a need, and an opportunity, for a more friendly and “human” approach to putting technology into the hands of these people, many of whom may not necessarily understand it but want and have use for it.”

Yau added: “The RadioShack experience is presented in a comfortable and convenient shopping environment with tech-helpful staff who will take the mystery out of the complexities of technology in the language that the customer understands – from layman to tech-savvy to geek-speak. With RadioShack, you are assured not only of getting genuine, dependable products that will not let you down but also value for money solutions that suit your budget.”
