Bosideng broadens overseas ambitions

Chinese apparel company Bosideng wants to take its distinctive Chinese style to the world’s top fashion cities.

Bosideng says it plans to open its first stores in Milan and New York following the success of its London flagship. The London store, which also houses its European headquarters, was the company’s first store outside China.

“We want to use this very first flagship store as a basis for future expansion inside and outside of the UK,” said chairman and CEO Gao Dekang.

Dekang disclosed that they are in talks with an Italian brand which would be their partner for establishing store in Milan planned next year.

“We will bring their brand into China and they will help us establish a retail presence in Italy,” said Dekang.

Meanwhile, Bosideng also plans to establish a retail presence in New York, in addition to its wholesale business there.

From its beginning in 1976, Bosideng now has more than 8000 retail outlets in China under its six core brands including Bosideng, Snow Flying, Kangbo, Bengen (previously known as Bingjie), Shuangyu and Shangyu. Its revenue stood at US$1.34 billion for the year ended March 31, 2012.
