Biba Apparels eyes overseas markets

Indian ethnic womenswear retailer Biba Apparels is looking to make an international footprint.

The retailer plans to open stores in countries where there are huge number of non-resident Indians such as Bangladesh, Singapore, Dubai, South Africa, the UK and the US by 2014 or 2015.

“There is a huge international market waiting for us and we would enter these after we complete 200 stores in India,” said Biba Apparels MD Siddharath Bindra.

Biba Apparels has opened its 101st store in Pondicherry and is planning to open another 99 within two years. It also recently entered the bridal and luxury ethnic wear segment through a joint venture with Manish Arora.

Besides its plans for retail expansion, Biba Apparels also plans to commence ecommerce now that online retailing is picking up in India. Currently, the retailer sells online through partners such as Jabong.com.

Biba Apparels is 27 per cent owned by the Kishore Biyani-led Future Group.
