Jumei expands offline

After almost three years as an online cosmetics retailer, Jumei.com is now targeting offline opportunities with a plan to open bricks-and-mortar stores.

The retailer said it will cooperate with beauty brands to open physical stores, with the first such stores to open this year.

“The monthly online sales of Jumei.com has reached 300 million yuan at present, equal to the total scale of thousands average offline cosmetic shops. So it’s time for Jumei.com to break into offline market to resolve (a) trust problem,” said its co-founder and CEO Chen Ou.

Established in 2010, Jumei competes in China with peers including Lafaso, Tiantian and Miqi. The retailer has received funds worth more than $10 million from Sequoia Capital in 2011. Reports say the retailer holds 60 per cent share of the cosmetics group-buying market.
