The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Chinese online fashion retailer Shangpin.com have signed a partnership which would allow American designers to reach Chinese customers.
Established in 2010, Shangpin has strategic cooperation with modern global brands and designer brands to become their first authorised dealer network in China. Currently, the high-end online retailer has more than 3 million shoppers.
According to CFDA spokesman, CFDA designers will begin selling products through Shangpin.com by the year-end.
“For us, this is a real opportunity not just for advice on the Chinese market, but also for the (CFDA) designers doing business in China to gain knowledge about Chinese e-commerce and doing business in China,” said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb.
Shangpin currently works with American designers including Stuart Weitzman and Diane von Furstenberg.
“China is a challenging market to enter because there are limited distributors to cover such a large geographical area. That is why e-commerce in China, much more than in the West, is the most effective distribution and marketing platform for designers who want to reach Chinese regions where traditional brick-and-mortar stores do not exist,” said Shangpin CEO David Zhao.
