Topshop to open in India

Spanish brand Zara will have a direct competitor in India with Topshop and Topman planning to enter shortly.

Indian company Planet Retail is reported to be in talks with Indonesian company Central Marketing Group (CMG), which holds the rights for Topshop and Topman in South Asian markets, to open stores in India.

Topshop/Topman parent company Arcadia Group had previously establish an agreement with Trent of Tata Group to open stores in the country, however, Trent shelved the plans and decided to focus on expanding Zara, with which it has a joint venture.

When asked to comment about the reported discussions, Ramesh Tainwala, chairman of Planet Retail, said: “For the moment, there are many moving pieces to this and, therefore, I would prefer not to comment.”

CMG also declined to comment.
