Gitanjali plans expansion drive

Gitanjali Group says it is looking at expanding further domestically and internationally this year.

The jeweller plans to add 300 new stores to its existing 104 in India. It targets second- and third-tier cities for new locations. Overseas, 250 new stores are to be opened, particularly in the US and Japan.

“Globally, we are looking at expanding further. We plan to add 250 stores in 2013. America is doing extremely well and we would like to expand there, followed by Japan,” said Gitanjali Group chairman and MD Mehul Choksi.

“Our target is to increase our global retail sales by 30 per cent this year. Last year, global sales were at $800 million,” he said.

Gitanjali owns and operates Rogers and Samuels in the US. It also has a presence in China, Japan, Italy, Middle East and other countries through tie-ups and acquisitions.
