Marina Square set for renovation

Marina Centre Holdings (MCH) will spend S$95 million (US$77 million) to revamp Singapore’s Marina Square.

The revamp will include the addition of a 50,000 sqft gourmet wing called ‘The Dining Edition’ set for June opening. It will house 16 mid-scale to upscale restaurants, cafes-bakeries, bistros and coffee joints.

The makeover will also see Marina Square getting an additional 200,000 sqft retail wing slated for 2014 opening. The additional retail spaces will expand the mall’s lettable area by 23 per cent.

“Redevelopment plans have been in the works for about two years. If you look at the number of developments taking place in the Marina Bay precinct, this is timely for us,” said MCH GM Chan Yien Mei.

The makeover is expected to increase footfall by 10 to 20 per cent.

The 1986-opened shopping mall last got a major renovation between 2003 and 2006.
