Canali plans Chinese expansion

Italian menswear retailer Canali is expanding in China after enjoying a sales boost.

The company plans to open five new boutiques across China in addition to its 60 existing boutiques there. It opened its fourth boutique in Shanghai at Westgate Mall just days ago.

“China is slowing a little bit but it will be one of the most important market for us,” said GM Stefano Canali.

Canali said that Greater China, which currently accounts 17 per cent of its global sales, will overtake the US, its largest market at the moment, within 10 years.

Having gained an increase of 15 per cent in its sales last year in China, Canali expects another strong performance this year, forecasting sales to grow by 15 per cent.

Market researcher Mintel predicts that China’s men’s clothing market will grow annually at a rate of 15 per cent for the next three years as more and more men become fashion conscious.
