Electronic City plans 60 stores

Indonesian electronics retailer Electronic City says it will be aggressive in its expansion as electronics become more of a basic need than a luxury across the country.

Electronic City plans to open 60 stores this year across Indonesia, it says. Recently, it opened its 34th store at Pondok Indah Mall.

“Economic growth is good. We also note consumers have changed their behavior patterns. Electronics are no longer luxuries, but have become basic needs,” said Anita Angelina, business development director of Electronic City.

Indonesia’s economy is expected to grow 6.2 per cent this year, with domestic consumption accounting for 56 per cent of that.

Electronic City, which opened its first store in 2001, competes with retailers including Erajaya Swasembada and Tiphone Mobile.
