Cartier has opened its largest store yet in Asia, in Tokyo’s upmarket Ginza retail district.

The flagship occupies four floors of the Hulic Ginza Sukiyabashi Building, with a facade designed by Tokyo-based practice Klein Dytham Architecture (KDA). Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese fabrics and artwork, the exterior features layers of a geometric pattern of fan shapes on top of the store’s simple outward appearance.

The stone flooring interior presents jewellery, watches, accessories, gifts and fragrances, featuring retail concepts dotted with various works by Japanese artists, aiming to capture the aesthetic of Japan. Standing out is an origami-inspired ceiling, enveloping the entire space with a reminiscence of a traditional Japanese umbrella.

The two additional areas – named after salon and garden themes – enable shoppers to sit back in between shopping sprees. The store’s top floor houses the so-called ‘Residences’, which are private spaces that welcome exclusive and special event reservations.

In August, the luxury conglomerate unveiled a duplex boutique in Bangkok, designed to blend the spirit of Thai heritage with Cartier’s craftsmanship.
