Courts expands Malaysian presence

Singaporean furniture, electronics and IT retailer Courts will boost its Malaysian presence with another seven stores scheduled to open between now and March.

The new openings form part of the company’s goal to open an average six stores per year over the next three years.

“We will open at least six stores this financial year and one megastore. The first opening is the ‘Big-Box’ megastore in Sri Damansara on July 20,” said Courts Malaysia CEO Allard Sjollema.

At 108,000 sqft over two floors, the ‘Big-Box’ megastore in Sri Damansara would be Court’s second largest store in Asia after a 130,000 sqft megastore in Singapore.

With the country’s increased population, rising average income and high home ownership rate, Malaysia is a key growth for the company, says Sjollema.

“Combined with accelerated demand from consumers who are becoming ever more technology-savvy, this has created a favourable market in which Courts was in a prime position to expand,” said Sjollema.

Courts has 60 stores in Malaysia.
