La Rinascente eyes Asia

Italian department store chain La Rinascente plans to pursue international expansion.

La Rinascente, acquired by Thai company Central Retail Corporation (CRC), has confirmed that it will open in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It also plans opening in Vietnam and China, where CRC currently has three “Central” department stores.

Domestically, where it currently has 11 stores, La Rinascente says it will open a flagship store in Rome in 2015 as well as a new store in Venice.

“Our goal is to build a collection of department stores located in dynamic tourist and shopping areas in the heart of the world’s capitals and major international cities,” said VP Vittorio Radice.

La Rinascente is also restructuring Danish department store Illum, which it had acquired in March.

“We will invest 10 million euros per year for five years, 50 million euros overall, which should enable us to double the revenues of this Danish department store from 100 to 200 million euros,” said Radice.
