Indian Govt launches textile chain

The Indian government-owned National Textile Corporation (NTC) plans a rapid expansion of its newly launched retail chain.

The chain, ‘Indian Republic’, sells ready-made garments. It is planned to make it a 300-store chain by March 2015.

Initially, ‘Indian Republic’ offers menswear but promises to launch womenswear soon.

“NTC today is positioned to provide best textile products starting with menswear range without compromising on quality and fashion. The initiative is being undertaken to up the value chain to ensure consumption of captive production wherever possible,” said NTC in a statement.

First stores are planned for Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi.

NTC targets to clock a revenue of Rs1400 crore ($254 million) this fiscal from Rs1200 crore last fiscal.
