Potato Corner eyes offshore expansion

Filipino franchise Potato Corner is eyeing further overseas and domestic expansion.

The French fries retailer plans to expand into new markets including Mexico, the Middle East, Egypt and Botswana. It plans to increase its store count abroad from 65 by the end of the year to 165 by the end of 2014.

Meanwhile, its domestic store network will expand from 350 by the end of the year to 380 by the end of 2014.

Franchise head, Jose Magsaysay Jr, said demand for the brand has been increasing recently, driven in part by the increasing purchasing power of consumers.

He added the company is planning to list the business on the Philippine Stock Exchange within the next two to three years.

Potato Corner opened its first outlet in 1992 and began franchising in 1993. Today, Potato Corner is not just as a kiosk business but increasingly a global in-line store business, with master franchisees and stores in countries including US, Indonesia, Panama, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
