Mobile phone company Spice Global plans to boost the smartphone uptake in India with a raft of store openings.
Spice Global, in cooperation with Google Inc, plans to open 50 AndroidLand stores and 100 AndroidLand Mini, which would be the smaller versions of AndroidLand during the next 18 months.
AndroidLand stores offer Android-run smartphones and tablets under brands including Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG, Micromax, Karbonn and Spice.
Currently, Spice Global runs two AndroidLand stores in Bangalore and Noida. It also operates 650 Spice Hotspot stores that sell mobile devices from multiple brands.
India is the second country, after Indonesia, to have Android-focused stores.
Google, through partnership with Erafone, opened the world’s first Android-focused store called Android Nation in Jakarta in 2012.
