Amedei tests Hong Kong water

Italian luxury chocolate brand Amedei has set up a pop-up shop in Hong Kong at Harbour City to test its potential there.

Amedei is considering joining other luxury chocolate brands like Godiva and Jean-Paul Hévin which have been operating in Hong Kong for some years.

Amedei plans to open a permanent outpost in the city should the pop-up shop become successful.

It believes that the market has still enough room for high-end chocolate brands like them as Hong Kongoers’ appetite for finer things in life increases.

“This city is like London – it’s an international place and people here are attached to quality. They are looking for the perfect chocolate,” said Amedei founder Cecilia Tessieri.

Also, Hong Kong people have a tradition of gifting, which boosts the chocolate industry, it says.

Godiva chef Philipe Daue added that Hong Kong and China are becoming more sensitive to quality.

“People are more exposed to high-end chocolates through their travels and their consumption, and they are becoming more sophisticated and demanding,” he said.
