Courts to open Indonesia store early

IT and furniture retailer Courts is to open its first ‘Big Box’ mega store in Indonesia ahead of schedule.

Its first ‘Big Box’ mega store will be located in Bekasi, Kota Harapan Indah, south of Jakarta and is slated to open in the second quarter of financial year 2015.

Construction of the two-storey 170,000 sqft mega store began in October last year and is expected to be completed by the end of June.

It will be the company’s largest store ever and will cater to a population of more than 2.4 million.

The store will feature Courts’ largest range yet of electrical, IT and furniture products under one roof, together with retail concepts that will be new to Indonesia, such as Sofa Maker, Sleep Clinic, Courts Connect, Market Hall and Hot Off the Docks.

The Courts mega store in Bekasi will also have a 23,000 sqft warehouse that will serve upcoming stores within the catchment.

“Establishing ourselves in Kota Harapan Indah, which is growing as a favourable shopping destination, puts us in good stead to leverage key festive seasons within the second half of 2014,” said CEO Terence Donald O’Connor.

Earlier this month, Courts has also opened its second ‘Big-Box’ mega store in Subang Jaya, Malaysia. The 66,000 sqft single-storey Subang mega store is the company’s second largest store in Malaysia.

Currently, Courts has more than 70 stores in Singapore and Malaysia.
