Bosideng tests US waters

Chinese menswear retailer Bosideng is testing the US market by opening a pop-up store.

The store is located inside men’s specialty store Rothman’s in Union Square, New York.

Bosideng expanded overseas in 2012 when it opened a flagship store in London’s Oxford St and now the company, which has more than 11,000 stores in China, plans to tap into the $60 billion US menswear market.

“When I started Bosideng I never imagined we’d be here,” said company chairman Gao Dekang. “But the company grew beyond my dreams and international expansion felt like a natural step.”

To increase brand awareness among American consumers, Bosideng plans opening more pop-up shops in Los Angeles, Miami and Las Vegas. It is also scouting for a location in New York for its first flagship. An e-commerce business dedicated to American consumers is also part of the growth strategy, it says.
