Asia lifts McDonald’s sales

Fast food chain McDonald’s said sales in May rose 0.9 per cent, largely due to a rebounding performance in China.

Same-restaurant sales increased 2.5 per cent in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA) region, however, it fell one per cent in the US.

High sales in  Asia Pacific, particularly in China, were driven in large part by an expansion of its delivery and breakfast businesses. It is confident about China and plans to open 300 outlets there this year.

“We are intensifying our commitment to place the customer at the center of everything we do and are determined to create experiences that deliver the most meaningful impact for our customers and our business,” CEO Don Thompson said.

McDonald’s has over 35,000 locations worldwide.
