Apple confirms six new China stores

Apple has detailed the first phase of its Chinese expansion.

The iPhone maker is hiring six managers for new stores in Chinese cities Tianjin, Chongqing, Wuxi, Zhengzhou, Shenyang and Hangzhou.

The openings follow the announcement of Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s new retail head, to open 20 new retail stores across China by 2016.

Earlier this year, CEO Tim Cook said Apple, which plans to triple its presence there over the next two years, considers the nation a key market.

“I feel like there’s still loads of opportunity there, and feel really, really good about how we’re doing,” says Cook.

Having entered China in 2008, Apple now has 10 stores in mainland China and three in Hong Kong.
