GU lets shoppers take now buy later

Japanese retailer GU offers a new shopping experience at its store in Shibuya, Tokyo.

GU, a sister brand of Uniqlo, allows shoppers to walk out of its Shibuya store with an item unpaid.

The brand says it is part of its ‘fitting service’, enabling customers try the clothing outside the store premises prior to purchasing it.

“Customers will be asked to leave their names and telephone numbers with us but can try out our items anywhere outside as long as they return by closing time,” said Daisuke Hase, a spokesman at GU.

Hase said they’re not going to put the products back to the shelves should the customers do not buy them upon return.

GU will call the customers in case they fail to return the item by closing time.
