JV eases Taiwan-China payments

PayEase, the electronic payment service and solution provider in Mainland China, and OnePaid, the payment services platform of Taiwan-based Gangu Tech, have teamed up to facilitate cross-strait Internet-based payment services to Chinese buyers and Taiwanese sellers.

According to the agreement, OnePaid will provide online acquiring services for merchants in Taiwan. Meanwhile, buyers in Mainland China will be able to use PayEase to made direct purchase from Taiwan via their UnionPay cards. Every time a transaction is completed, the merchant will be alerted about the successful payment via push messaging by the OnePaid mobile app.

The merchant will then be able to use the back-end dashboard to quickly call up information such as the transaction’s order details, payment status and shipment address. This service will be free, meaning merchants won’t need to take on any additional fees for platform development before jumping right into cross-strait e-commerce.

PayEase GM Kino Kwok said OnePaid and PayEase have obtained the licenses issued by local governments needed to operate in the payment business in their respective areas, and both of them have established a strong presence in respective markets.

“This partnership will combine our strengths and bring more convenient, safer payment services to merchants and consumers on the mainland and in Taiwan. Looking beyond this, it will also fuel the development of e-commerce in Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.”

Gangu Tech’s chief technology officer, Lin Tingxun, said his company’s cooperation with PayEase marks a major milestone in OnePaid’s market expansion outside of Taiwan.

“Teaming up with PayEase will enable us to offer a more diversified mix of payment services for e-commerce in Taiwan, Mainland China and Hong Kong.”

Founded in 1998, PayEase was China’s first e-payment enterprise. It started providing cross-border payment services in 2000 and has now established itself as a leading player.
