Uniqlo Japan sales rise

Fast Retailing has released sales data for its Japan store network showing customers are spending more per visit.

While the number of stores it operates was down marginally year on year (it opened 20 stores over the year, but closed 27), the average spend per customer visit in January rose by 10 per cent – and by 12 per cent when online sales were taken into account.

Same store sales rose by 8.9 per cent year-on-year while ‘own store sales’ – in which Uniqlo includes sales from shops which traded only for part of the year (new stores and closed stores) – rose 10.8 per cent.

Total sales, including those online, rose by 12 per cent.

Uniqlo said in a brief statement that the same-store sales rise in January was due to strong sales at the start of the New Year holiday and “consistently favourable sales of core ranges”.
