Potato Corner eyes expansion

Potato Corner, the Philippines-founded flavoured french fries chain, plans to open 60 new stores at home this year and is planning expansion in six new overseas markets.

The company says it will open 60 stores in its home market of the Philippines this year and 10 in its first foray into Indonesia.

And Potato Corner is in ongoing discussions with potential franchise partners in China, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico and Spain.

The franchise business opened its first outlet in 1992 and has since expanded to 550 outlets worldwide, appointing master franchises in the US, Panama, Australia, Eqypt, Dubai, Oman, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Potato Corner CEO Jose Magsaysay Jr says there is strong demand for the product in the Philippines, warranting 60 new outlets.

“Many of the inquiries we received from overseas are from young individuals who want to become entrepreneurs and were our customers before,” Magsaysay told a media briefing.

Meanwhile, the company says it terminated the franchise agreement for Malaysia after the required number of stores were not opened.
