Retailer caught selling used iPhones as new

Customs officers have raided a Mong Kok store after it was caught in a sting selling used iPhones as new handsets.
The phones were sold in boxes and bore the resemblance of new handsets. The Customs and Excise Department received complaints from a customer two months ago after he bought an iPhone 6 from the store in Sin Tat Plaza in Mong Kok. It was discovered to be a second-hand phone after the customer checked its serial number
An undercover agent subsequently bought an iPhone 6 from the store, and after investigation, it was also found to be a second hand phone.
Officers then raided the store this week and arrested a 20 year old male who said he was in charge of the shop, which is now accused of breaking the Trade Descriptions Ordinance. Six iPhones were seized.
Officials say the same retailer was prosecuted in August last year for selling second hand iPhone 5s, and passing off older phone models as iPhone 5s for sale.
