Four new HDB centres planned

Four new Housing Development Board public estates have been announced for Singapore – the first for more than a decade.

They will be located at Punggol, hougang, and Sembawang, and constructed over the next three years.

Each neighbourhood centrer will serve between 5000 and 6000 households. They will have integrated one-stop centres featuring supermarkets, food courts and other dining and retail options.

The HDB has already outlined a plan to add coffee shops to its network of housing estates across the island – with some 40 plus cafes to be leased.

The new estates will feature connections to public transport, and green features like rainwater harvesting.

“We want to plan towns that are well designed, sustainable as well as community-centric,” said Fong Chun Wah, group director (development and procurement) with HDB.

“HDB is not just a developer and master planner, we also play a social role.”

The four new centres are:

Oasis Terraces

Oasis Terraces, a new generation neighbourhood centre integrated with a polyclinic. Located along My Waterway@Punggol and next to Oasis LRT Station, it will inject vibrancy along the waterway with its event-filled community plaza and various al-fresco dining options. Walkways and ramps between the development and waterway encourage seamless pedestrian movement.

Northshore Plaza, located in the heart of Northshore District in Punggol Eco-Town. Residents will enjoy the convenience of shops, a supermarket, food courts, restaurants, enrichment centres, and a childcare centre, right at their doorstep. Beyond the commercial facilities, Northshore Plaza has also been designed with an easily accessible network of community spaces. (Pictured top of the page)

Buangkok Square

Buangkok Square, a bustling new neighbourhood centre bounded by Buangkok Link and Buangkok Crescent, where residents can enjoy an array of dining and shopping choices right at their doorstep. The development offers a community plaza that is integrated with the neighbourhood park, and is a great place for residents to meet up and connect with one another.

Canberra Plaza

Canberra Plaza, which will be a landmark to the new Sembawang Neighbourhood 1. This new generation neighbourhood centre integrates commercial and community facilities with public housing.
