Smart jewellery proves bright idea

Smart jewellery has become the new generation of wearable technology.
Leading the way is Beijing-based Totwoo, which is pioneering a mix of Italian design with Chinese technology.
Unlike other wearable technology brands, Totwoo has decided not to limit itself to a single specific item, instead introducing its products in series, or collections. Its smart jewellery is easy to use: a tap or a shake makes a necklace or bracelet with embedded circuitry work as a pedometer, a calorie-consumption calculator, a sedentary reminder or a monitor of harmful UV rays.

Wearers can also opt for a less practical option, like a shining mode that makes their jewellery flash continuously.
Connected via Bluetooth, jewellery wearers can even communicate by tapping or shaking their accessories. The wearables can send messages varying from “I miss you” to “I am sorry”.
Each piece of smart jewellery retails in the price range of 1000 to 2000 yuan (USD$150-$300).
Founded by Chinese internet entrepreneur Wang Jieming and Italian designer Marco Dal Maso, the innovative jewellery brand made its debut in Milan. Mass production started in June and goes digital this month with an online store.
Totwoo says it will soon launch more smart jewellery collections with wider applications. Some pieces will be designed for men.
