Jamie’s Italian, a partnership between British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and his mentor Gennaro Contaldo, is about to open its first restaurant in Thailand.
The family-friendly Italian restaurant will open this year in the newly renovated Siam Discovery mall in the heart of Bangkok’s shopping district, in conjunction with Hotel Properties and Siam Piwat.
Jamie’s Italian Siam Discovery will feature reclaimed-timber refectory tables, zinc tables and vintage upholstered lounge chairs, with a monochromatic, handpainted floral-tile flooring. The dining area will have brass spotlights, vintage enamel shades and a textured-glass chandelier.
Guests will be able to watch their antipasti planks being made at a counter in the main dining area, or sit at the bar.
As well as the antipasti planks, menu highlights will include tagliatelle Bolognese with handmade pasta tossed in a ragu of beef, pork, herbs, Chianti and Parmesan, finished with herby breadcrumbs, and prawn linguine with a fish broth featuring fennel, tomato and chili topped with rocket.
All pastas are made onsite daily, and the pizza dough is also handmade and proved for hours before being hand stretched.
As with all Jamie’s Italian outlets, the restaurant will be committed to sourcing free-range, sustainable and ethically produced ingredients. It will work with Thai farmers to showcase local, sustainable produce.
“Bangkok is such a vibrant, buzzing city with a really fantastic food scene,” says Oliver. “We’ll be sourcing lots of beautiful, top-quality local produce.”
The first Jamie’s Italian opened in 2008 in Oxford, England, and there are now more than 65 outlets around the world.
