Macau promoting unsold food donations

Macau’s Environmental Protection Bureau is drafting guidelines for bakeries and supermarkets to donate unsold food.
Its environmental protection centre head Chan Kwok Ho says the bureau is working on the guidelines with the Food Safety Centre.
“About 30 to 40 per cent of the city’s waste actually comes from restaurants,” says Chan.
“Only 20 per cent of the city’s total waste can be recycled while the rest has to be sent to the incineration centre.”
The city’s per capita waste disposal is 2.1 kg, which he says is higher than neighbouring regions.
