Refash Malaysia opens Kuala Lumpur store

Pre-loved women’s clothing retailer Refash Malaysia has opened a store in Kuala Lumpur’s Sungai Wang Plaza following its website launch.

Refash started as a store in City Plaza, Singapore, then grew to having omni-sales channels as part of its overall strategy of becoming the go-to platform for women to buy and sell like-new fashion. It launched its Singapore website in Singapore last year, and opened its online store in Malaysia in December.

Founder/CEO Aloysius Sng says the idea of Refash came to him when he noticed the rapid influx of fashion brands and shortening trends. Instead of women donating or throwing away their clothes, Refash could sell them on their behalf while the clothes still had retail and resale value.

“Women don’t wear more than 70 per cent of what is in their closet,” says Sng.

His team graduated from the Singapore Press Holdings Plug & Play accelerator program in April last year with the idea, raising US$294,000 in a seed round led by Singapore’s Tri5 Ventures, Malaysia-based Tinkbig Ventures and an unnamed angel investor.

Refash makes the process easy. All sellers need do is pack their unwanted items into a bag for the Refash team, which ensures each item is in good condition and quality for the next owner. If the quality is not up to par, Refash provides sellers the option to donate rejected items for recycling.

Apart from the website, the Singaporean side has a shopping mobile app, which Sng plans to launch in Malaysia soon.

Refash has partnered with delivery service Ninja Van Malaysia so sellers can arrange to send in their items by courier via the Refash website.

Sng plans to push out the brand to other cities in Malaysia, such as Penang.
