Yardbird seeks permanent home in Singapore

After two pop-ups, Hong Kong restaurant Yardbird plans to open a permanent outlet in Singapore.

Featuring izakaya and yakitori Japanese cuisine, the restaurant tested the market with pop-ups at meat-centric restaurants Burnt Ends and Meat Smith @ Cocotte.

“We’re still looking for a space,” says Yardbird’s Canadian-born Chinese co-owner Lindsay Jang. “We will most likely do another pop-up before we confirm a permanent location.”

Jang opened the no-reservations restaurant nearly six years ago with Canadian chef Matt Abergel, who once worked at Japanese restaurant Masa in New York City.

Yardbird is not partnering with Unlisted Collection, the company behind Burnt Ends and Meat Smith, for its first overseas outpost. Unlisted Collection owner hotelier/restaurateur Loh Lik Peng says he does not rule out the possibility of collaborating with Yardbird for another pop-up, however.

Unlisted Collection’s brands also include Restaurant Andre, which just been added to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list at 14th spot, and the new produce-driven November, which has replaced Restaurant Ember at Hotel 1929.

Meanwhile, Yardbird is not connected with the Yardbird Southern Table & Bar restaurant from Miami, which is scheduled to open at Marina Bay Sands this year.
